1-DAY BATTLE RIFLE CLASS

2021 CLASS DATES:
MAY 14        REGISTRATION

Topics covered include safety, stance, zeroing for iron sights and optics, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their rifle includes field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that is covered includes reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Malfunction drills and shooting on the move as well as transitions to sidearm. Timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level.
***Must shoot a “Battle Rifle” Style Rifle (FAL, G3, HK91, SR25, AR10, M14, M1A, Garand - any 30 cal auto loader, etc)***

WEAPON AND GEAR REQUIREMENTS:

Must shoot a “Battle Rifle” Style Rifle (FAL, G3, HK91, SR25, AR10, M14, M1A, Garand - any 30 cal auto loader, etc.)
Serviceable handgun of at least 9mm

Eye & Ear protection (electronic hearing protection is preferred)
Minimum four rifle magazines
Minimum two (2) handgun mags
Pouches or vest with ability to properly carry/hold 3-4 rifle magazines
Pouch or vest with ability to carry a spare pistol mag on body.
Serviceable rifle sling- suitable for a variety of shooting positions - tactical type preferred
Suitable range wear depending on the season
Rifles zeroed at 100 meters.
Good attitude.

ABOUT LARRY VICKERS

Larry Vickers is a retired US Army 1st SFOD- Delta combat veteran with years of experience in the firearms industry as a combat marksmanship instructor and industry consultant. In recent years he has hosted tactical firearms related TV shows on the Sportsman Channel with the latest being TacTV of which Bravo Company is a presenting sponsor. Larry Vickers special operations background is one of the most unique in the industry today; he has been directly or indirectly involved in the some of the most significant special operations missions of the last quarter century. During Operation Just Cause he participated in Operation Acid Gambit - the rescue of Kurt Muse from Modelo Prison in Panama City, Panama. As a tactics and marksmanship instructor on active duty he helped train special operations personnel that later captured Saddam Hussein and eliminated his sons Uday and Qusay Hussein. In addition he was directly involved in the design and development of the HK416 for Tier One SOF use which was used by Naval Special Warfare personnel to kill Osama Bin Laden. Larry Vickers has developed various small arms accessories with the most notable being his signature sling manufactured by Blue Force Gear and Glock accessories made by Tangodown. In addition he has maintained strong relationships with premium companies within the tactical firearms industry such as BCM, Aimpoint, Black Hills Ammunition, Wilson Combat and Schmidt & Bender.

REVISED RANGE AND AMMO RESTRICTIONS POLICY

​​Only AMERICAN MADE, brass-cased, copper-jacketed, good quality ammo from the approved list below is allowed at Red River West.
THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE POLICIES.

RANGE POLICIES UPDATE

Red River West representatives will inspect all ammo brought for classes, competition or personal use at our facility. This is to ensure that all ammo is safe for use here and complies with our Ammo Restrictions policy. If any unauthorized restricted ammo is found, the person having it will be immediately expelled from the range with no refund. This is for the safety of all persons at the range as well as for protection of our property and targetry.
Please note only Red River West can approve or suggest ammo, not an instructor. However, check the instructor's website to ensure you have the required minimum round count.
MAGAZINE LOADING/UNLOADING IS ALLOWED ONLY AT THE GEAR TABLES. THERE IS NO LOADING/UNLOADING MAGAZINES IN THE PARKING OR GENERAL AREAS.

LONG RANGE AMMO

For long range classes, match ammunition is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

AMMO RESTRICTIONS POLICY

NO steel case, steel core, armor piercing (M855, green tip, SS109, Win Q3131, Win 3131A, tungsten penetrator, black tip, etc.), XM-193, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammo is allowed…PERIOD.
No ‘remanufactured’ ammo is allowed from ANY manufacturer.
For long range classes, match ammunition manufactured by one of the above listed manufacturers is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

HOLSTER RESTRICTIONS POLICY

SERPA HOLSTERS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AT RED RIVER WEST. All holsters will be inspected to ensure they are in compliance with our guidelines and safe for use. This includes any holster considered "serpaesque" or having the same type of release that the Serpa holsters have.

2-DAY ADVANCED CARBINE OPERATOR

This class focuses on all aspects of advanced level handgun shooting skills relevant to a wide variety of applications including whether you are a deploying serviceman, an on duty law enforcement officer, a conceal carry civilian, or for home defense. Topics covered will be a review of safety, stance, sight alignment, reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and trigger control. More advanced topics will include shooting on the move, barricade, cover and concealment, and support side shooting, etc.  Day Two will include a review and drill applications of all the topics that were covered.  Any shooter will leave the course with a firmer grasp of advanced level handgun shooting whether it is your primary or secondary weapon during any situation.  Additionally, Larry will make himself available to any student during class breaks and after class to answer individual questions on his/her weapons, equipment, gear set up, etc.

WEAPON AND GEAR REQUIREMENTS:

Eye and Ear Protection (electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended)
Serviceable duty grade handgun of at least 9mm Para caliber
Minimum of 5 serviceable pistol magazines
Serviceable holster- - Please note: ***No Serpa or Serpa style holsters and no AWIB carry****
Pouch(es) that provide the ability to properly carry a minimum of two spare magazines
Suitable range wear depending on the season
Weapon cleaning & lubrication supplies
Good attitude
