CARBINE 2

​MAY 16       REGISTRATION

​YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR THIS COURSE.

Carbine 2 course starts with Review of Carbine 1 skills and then moves to more advanced shooting and movement skill drills, including barricade and weak side shooting. This course will also work on weapons transition to handgun. Students will learn challenging drills that they can take with them to maintain their progress.
SUBJECTS COVERED:

  • Grip, stance and the fundamentals of marksmanship
  • Weapons manipulations to include, movement to and from cover, positional shooting and transition drills
  • Various field shooting positions

EQUIPMENT:
AMMO: Students provide their own ammo: Minimum 500 rounds of carbine. (SEE RED RIVER WEST'S
AMMO RESTRICTIONS POLICY PRIOR TO PURCHASING AMMO FOR CLASS. If you have any questions, contact RED RIVER WEST directly.)
HARDWARE - A functional and practical carbine chambered in .223, 5,56 or 7.63 X 39. If available, a spare weapon is also an excellent idea. A cleaning kit and tools that are compatible with your weapon system(s) is also a must.
A functional and practical handgun chambered in 9mm, .40 cal, or .45 ACP. If available, a spare weapon is also an excellent idea. A cleaning kit and tools that are compatible with your weapon system(s) is also a must. Each student should have a minimum of 3 working magazines. Single stack shooters should have 6 magazines.

Proper belt to support equipment
A holster and magazine pouch that will retain equipment when moving
Minimum of 4 working magazines.
Serviceable Sling – Functional and adjustable for multiple shooting positions
Clothing suited to strenuous activity as well as being seasonally appropriate
Rain gear / cold weather gear (seasonal)
Ear protection (electronic preferred) / Eye protection
Baseball style hat (recommended)
Proper belt to support equipment
Magazine pouches (Optional: Battle belt, or Chest rig)
Tools that work on your weapon
Weapons lubricant
Water hydrating device
Knee and elbow pads (optional)
Gloves (optional)
An open mind

COURSE COST: $200.00

RANGE FEE COST:   $35/day per student (This is a separate fee payable to Red River West and is payable first day of class.)

ABOUT JEREMY COX

Jeremy Cox is a Texas veteran who served in the Army as a Military Police. He also has 20 years of experience as a Texas Peace Officer. He has been a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Education(TCOLE) certified firearms instructor as well as a Texas LTC instructor for more then 10 years. He is a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center trained Active Shooter Instructor, an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) civilian response to active shooter event trainer & Texas DPS certified School Safety Instructor.

Carbine 1 is is an introductory carbine training course designed to give students with the fundamental skills of marksmanship and weapons manipulation.  Focusing on mindset, marksmanship, manipulation, and movement, students will have a solid foundation to build on as their skill set progresses.  By first starting with proper carbine manipulation techniques, students will move on into the fundamentals of marksmanship with challenging drills that they can take with them to maintain their progress.
SUBJECTS COVERED:

  • Carbine nomenclature, and cycle of operations
  • Proper preventative maintenance of the carbine
  • Proper carbine setup and placement of essential accessories
  • Zeroing and what type of zero works best for your application
  • Grip, stance and the fundamentals of marksmanship
  • Weapons manipulations to include, loading, reloading, and the reduction of common malfunctions
  • Various field shooting positions

REVISED RANGE AND AMMO RESTRICTIONS POLICY

​Only AMERICAN MADE, brass-cased, copper-jacketed, good quality ammo from the approved list below is allowed at Red River West.
THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE POLICIES.

RANGE POLICIES UPDATE

Red River West representatives will inspect all ammo brought for classes, competition or personal use at our facility. This is to ensure that all ammo is safe for use here and complies with our Ammo Restrictions policy. If any unauthorized restricted ammo is found, the person having it will be immediately expelled from the range with no refund. This is for the safety of all persons at the range as well as for protection of our property and targetry.
Please note only Red River West can approve or suggest ammo, not an instructor. However, check the instructor's website to ensure you have the required minimum round count.
MAGAZINE LOADING/UNLOADING IS ALLOWED ONLY AT THE GEAR TABLES. THERE IS NO LOADING/UNLOADING MAGAZINES IN THE PARKING OR GENERAL AREAS.

ONLY AMMO FROM THESE MANUFACTURERS WILL BE ALLOWED (SUBJECT TO THE RESTRICTIONS POLICY STATED BELOW):

  • REMINGTON;
  • WINCHESTER;
  • FEDERAL;
  • LAWMAN;
  • HORNADY;
  • BLACK HILLS.

LONG RANGE AMMO

For long range classes, match ammunition is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

AMMO RESTRICTIONS POLICY

NO steel case, steel core, armor piercing (M855, green tip, SS109, Win Q3131, Win 3131A, tungsten penetrator, black tip, etc.), XM-193, tracer, incendiary, aluminum case, or communist block ammo is allowed…PERIOD.
No ‘remanufactured’ ammo is allowed from ANY manufacturer.
For long range classes, match ammunition manufactured by one of the above listed manufacturers is required; for example, Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills Match.

HOLSTER RESTRICTIONS POLICY

SERPA HOLSTERS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AT RED RIVER WEST. All holsters will be inspected to ensure they are in compliance with our guidelines and safe for use. This includes any holster considered "serpaesque" or having the same type of release that the Serpa holsters have.
